Planning permission has been granted for the new classroom development at Wigston Academy in Leicestershire for Wigston Academies Trust.
The project will involve the demolition of the existing 1990s single-storey classroom building, which will be replaced with a modern teaching facility providing new classroom spaces, unisex toilets, storage areas and staff welfare facilities.
YMD Boon successfully secured Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) funding for the project in the 2025/26 round and has been appointed to deliver Architectural Services, Project Management, Contract Administration and Principal Designer duties.
R1 Construction have been appointed as the Contractor for the scheme, continuing a strong and successful collaboration with Wigston Academies Trust. This follows the completion of the award shortlisted specialist science building at Wigston Academy and the ongoing works at Wigston College.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early summer for the new classroom building and we look forward to seeing this project progress.
