Project Success! - R1 are Delighted to Announce the Successful Handover of Wigston Academy

Delivered in partnership with YMD Boon and Wigston Academy Trust, this 30-week transformation replaces a dilapidated, two-storey science block with a cutting-edge teaching facility. The new building features two state-of-the-art science labs, two modern classrooms, and additional support spaces.

The design achieves a perfect balance between contemporary elements and features that harmonise with the classic 1950s brickwork of Block A.

The new science block incorporates energy-saving insulated structural panels within its construction, along with photovoltaic cells installed on the innovative curved wave-form roof. The science classrooms are accessed via a well-lit entrance foyer, which features solar-reflective glazing and roof lights.

Cedar-clad sections have also been included to align with recent additions, complemented by a combination of facing brick, rendered panels, and powder-coated double-glazed aluminium windows, all of which blend seamlessly with the existing surroundings.

Constructed using the innovative Structural Insulated Panel System (SIPS), the high-performance solution offers enhanced energy efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability compared to traditional construction methods.
